Declivity

07 Jan 09

Definition

(noun) : the downward slope of a hill; a downward bend in a path

DFW's Sentence Our home's whole subdivision, Sepulveda Heights, consisted of large prefabricated colonial homes ranged along the crest of a severe hillside, which meant that the view from my parents' bedroom was of just the sky and sun and a fore-shortened declivity of lawn.

My Sentence I'm not saying the hike wasn't fun, but when you avoid every natural declivity in order to trek the more rugged routes this strikes me as a form of overindulgent punishment I've put considerable energy into avoiding most of my life.
